I guess the assembly you need is what PTC calls "cast cavity" not "mold cavity". Not sure if you got the correct one. There should be an option to create "cast cavity" under file -> new -> manufacturing. I imagine creating a "sand core" should be pretty similar to creating "mold insert", but i don't know for sure.
